The swim will take place in the indoor heated pool at Wellington Sports Centre. This is a 25 metre pool therefore novice triathletes will swim 8 lengths(200m) and sprint triathletes will swim 16 lengths(400m). Athletes will start swimming as soon as a space becomes available in a lane (maximum of 4 to a lane). All competitors in a category will start at approximately the same time, but maybe not in strict numerical order. If you plan to tumble turn, please beware of the hand rails at both ends of the pool.

Bike

The cycle route is mainly an out and back course, running from Wellington to Milverton and back for the novices with an extra loop to Wiveliscombe for the sprint race.

The Novice bike route through Milverton will be the same as the last couple of years. Click here for map detail

The route is a technical course with a mixture of quiet country lanes with some tight bends and fast level sections - take care at all times.

On leaving the Sports Centre go along Corams Lane. Turn left at the end of Corams Lane. This road takes you over a railway bridge (about 1km) and out of the residential area of Wellington onto undulating, quiet roads towards Milverton (B3187).

There is a sharp 'S' bend in the hamlet of Chipley and a long sweeping hill down into Milverton. All cyclists should look closely for signs in the village of Milverton and turn left up a short steep hill towards the church. At the top of this hill the novices turn right then follow the road round the sharp left hand bend and down the hill to the roundabout. Go right round the roundabout and return up the hill going straight on at the top of the hill, through Milverton and retrace the route back to Wellington.

Sprinters follow signs at the top of the hill and turn left down a winding hill onto the Milverton/Wiveliscombe road (B3227). Follow the road to the roundabout on the outskirts of Wiveliscombe before returning, passing the first turn to Milverton and continuing on to the  roundabout.  At the roundabout head right for Milverton and follow directions back onto the B3187 Wellington road, returning to the Sports Centre along the same route.

There are few turns but the course is undulating and, in short sections, quiet narrow, so take care at all times. Look for signs and for marshalls who will be at any turns and roudabouts.

You are reminded that you must obey the laws of the road at all times and obey any instructions from marshalls or the police.

Run

From the transition area follow the signs down the Sports Centre access road to Corams Lane. Turn left down Springfield Road, then bear right at the end. Turn left into Station Road, cross the railway bridge. Turn left into Millstream Gardens towards Tonedale Mill and then first right. Take the 2nd left and pass through the bollards, down the slope onto Birchills Hill. Turn left taking care there is no traffic.

Follow this lane as it winds up a gradient until reaching a wide track on the left with signs for Linden House Nursing Home. Turn here past the Nursing Home before following the track across the railway bridge and back to the Sports Centre via the avenue of trees.

Novices then turn right across the footbridge and back into the finish tunnel - look for the marshalls.

Sprinters take a '2nd lap band' from the marshall and follow the route again for lap 2 finishing as the novices did by turning right over the bridge and going into the finish tunnel.

Sprinters must have a '2nd lap band' at the end of the race!
